Core Values Statement
Empathy and kindness are humanity’s greatest strengths.
The beauty of being human is found in how we show up for each other.
We have a duty to uplift and include those who are being oppressed and excluded.
We have a duty to speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves.
We all have a responsibility to keep learning, unlearning, and taking action, until every system that harms or excludes others is dismantled.
For those of us who hold privilege, our responsibility is not less, but more.
It’s not enough to “do no harm.” We have to actively work to build a world where everyone belongs. That means uplifting marginalized voices, advocating for justice, and staying open to growth.
There are basic human rights that are incontestable and must be inalienable for everyone. We must protect those rights and those who stand to lose them at all costs.
We must be willing to risk discomfort and make personal sacrifices to fight for the freedom of others.
Until every person, regardless of race, creed, gender, sexual orientation, ability, or identity, is truly free to live, love, and thrive, our work is not finished.
None of us are free until all of us are free.
And to make it perfectly clear where I stand:
Love is love, black lives matter, trans lives matter, and human beings aren’t “illegal”, especially not on stolen land.
Here’s the heart behind me sharing this…
You might wonder why I’ve chosen to share my personal values so openly here. Some might even call it unprofessional.
But this is my business, my livelihood, and my little corner of the universe. It is deeply personal. If this isn’t the place to stand firmly on my values, then where is?
Here’s why my values belong in my business:
Firstly, a lot of people, especially those who are marginalized, don’t have the luxury of assuming a person or space is safe. I want to make it abundantly clear to those folks, especially if they’re considering working with me, that they will be welcomed, accepted, and valued for who they are here.
Secondly, people have the right to know where their money is going. In a world where so many systems cause harm — and so many businesses contribute to that harm or stay silent — I believe in being transparent. Especially for those of us who care deeply about justice, equity, and doing better.
By sharing my values, I’m making it clear what I stand for, and giving you the information you need to decide whether supporting my work aligns with what you stand for, too.
And finally, to me, these aren’t political statements. They’re moral ones. These values are about humanity. They’re about choosing kindness, justice, and integrity, even when it’s uncomfortable. Especially when it’s uncomfortable.
As a kid, I always hoped I’d grow up to be someone who was willing to make personal sacrifices to stand up for what’s right. So if I lose business, money, followers, or friends over this…so be it. It’s worth it.
My integrity, and protecting marginalized people, matters far more to me than anyone’s money or approval. I’m not here to please everyone. I’m here to stand firmly on my values, and beside those who need it most.
If that feels off to you, or you found yourself disagreeing with my core values, we’re simply not a good fit. You’re free to go without explanation. No need to dramatically announce your exit — just close the tab.
But if you’re nodding along, feeling seen, and thinking “yes, exactly,” then you’re my kind of person! We’re going to work amazingly well together. Let’s bring your vision to life and build something bold, beautiful, and authentically you.
Want to include something like this on your website?
I got this idea from Claire Paniccia, and took her $9 course on how to create your own values statement*. I highly recommend it!
